Doula Services by Deanna Mulder-Sauter and Cybele MacHardy
Congratulations to you and your partner for having what will prove to be a little bundle of joy! Babies are a wonderful addition to your life.
I'm really happy you are considering a doula to help you bring your baby into the world. Doula support has been shown to help women have shorter and less complicated labors, have less need for pain medication, decrease the chance of cesarean delivery and provide greater overall satisfaction with the birth experience.
A birth doula will help you prepare for your birth, learning everything from relaxation and pain management techniques to pushing and breathing techniques. She will stay by your side during the whole of the challenging part of labor and birth, using massage, changing your position, keeping you hydrated and hopefully nourished and helping you to keep focused on the job at hand. She will explain the medical jargon being spoken around you at your chosen birth site so you will be able to make the best decisions for your birth. And then in the days after your baby is born she will come to your home to assist while you and your partner learn how to take care of your new baby with lactation help, baby support, food and maybe even a massage to ease your aching muscles.
